Ministry Moment with Michelle: "Pillar People"
"I got your back!" "You can count on me!" How many times have you been in a situation where you "thought" your "pillar people" had your back? You know those. The ones who you've trusted and always thought that you could count on them; basicall
y because they told you so. The ones who have been your main support.
Over the years I've learned that many times people mean well, and make promises they are unable to keep. You look behind you and there is no one there!
Remember Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane with his disciples? He took Peter, James and John deeper into the garden with him. He knows what lies ahead for him. The three were to keep watch, but they cannot stay awake. He asked them three times to pray, stay awake and keep watch, but they couldn't. He even asked Peter if he could stay awake for one hour. He warns them not to fall into temptation, "the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak". Jesus saw Judas with the chief priests, elders and the armed crowd coming. He told the disciples, "The hour has come! Look the Son of Man is now being betrayed into the hands of sinners."
Well, you know the rest of the story with Judas betraying Jesus; however, it's worth repeating the part that the disciples were so afraid and shocked at what was happening that they all ran away!
A lesson for us all. If Jesus could not depend on his hand picked 12, why should we put faith in our "pillar" friends? Look at what they missed out on by not walking with him. Same with our "pillar" friends, when they disappoint us and don't have our backs, they miss walking with us and may be missing a blessing! God works that way sometimes! He'll send a blessing through you for them. Read about Jesus at Gethsemane Matthew 26:36-56
