Ministry Moment with Michelle: "You Are My Star."
"Be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble."
"My harbinger of hope!" "Persevere", persevere, persevere, persevere...I haven't posted in about a month. I can blame it on another "P" word, "Procrastination" or some other excuse we find when we fill our lives with a lot of unnecessary noise.
A few days ago, I tuned in to the TV (rare) to a lot of "unnecessary noise" and what I heard and saw was so unsettling to my soul. The "noise" rattled my nerves and went
straight to my core. Blood pressure rose and tears
The images and sounds of "white" male Senators speaking to
an African-American woman in tones that would never be
tolerated among their own. The disrespect and rudeness of one
humankind to another, regardless of race, gender or class.
THE GOD MOMENT for me was the compassionate tribute from
Senator Cory Booker to Supreme Court Judge Nominee,
Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.
The admirable comments, comparisons, and references to those who've
come before her/us, who have broken down barriers, and paved the
paths for so many of us. (Some choose to forget.)
It was a motivating, proud moment in history for me. It was a moment in humanity
when one humankind empathized with another and extended grace
during a moment of chaos, disruption, disrespect, disgrace, and unkindness.
A moment when one human heart, felt, and spoke to another human heart. A moment when Senator Booker took the high road (and his time) and exuded compassion to Judge Brown Jackson, one of the most brilliant minds of our times. A woman of extraordinary character
and extreme intelligence. It was as if one were witnessing a chat between a proud big brother and sister! Enough said!
In the words of Senator Booker to Judge Jackson, "You are my star. You are my harbinger of hope!" and I salute you both!
